Tara's careful with Stefan, because she feels it's unfair to treat him based on things he doesn't remember doing. However, one of those things was saving her life, which will make an impression. And she thinks that this Stefan has that capacity too, even if it hasn't come up (and hopefully won't).

That aside, he seems guarded, quiet but polite. She's glad for his sake that he has people he knows with him, as she knows how important that can be. She can understand his reserve, and sympathizes with it. She hopes they can genuinely become friends.
